Norma Jean (Clayton) Mattingly, 74, of Des Arc, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025, at Campbell Healthcare and Senior Living in Campbell, Missouri.
She was born on July 20, 1950, in Butler County, Missouri, to John N. Clayton, Jr. and Patricia (Gardner) Clayton. On June 5, 1981, she married Charles Mattingly.
Norma was a longtime resident of Des Arc. She enjoyed running a green house, growing flowers, quilting, and embroidery work. Around 1975 Norma started working at Proctor and Gamble as a secretary and worked her way up to the first female mechanic and electrician. Through hard work and self-study, Norma became a master electrician and passed that skill to her children. She showed her children and grandchildren that through hard work you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. She was a big supporter of the SEMO Women’s Basketball Team and would even hire some of the players to help remodel rental homes and taught them what she knew about electrical work. Norma especially loved spending time with her family.
Norma is survived by 2 sisters, Jenny Hudson, and Martha Clayton; 2 brothers, John Clayton and James Clayton; one son, Richard Crossen; one daughter, Shannon Wargo; five grandchildren, Kenneth Green, Aaron Wargo, Alex Crossen, Brittany Crossen, and Zachary Wargo; and one great grandchild, Bishop Wargo. Norma is preceded in death by her parents, John and Patricia Clayton and her loving husband, Charles Mattingly. A host of family and friends survive.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home is assisting with all funeral arrangements.
