Johnnie D. Sutter was born on February 15, 1951, in San Gabriel, California. On July 31, 2026, he took the Lord’s hand and went home.

Johnnie proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting on February 21, 1968, during the Vietnam War. For his honorable service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Johnnie had a deep love for music and was the happiest with a pair of drumsticks in his hands or a guitar nearby. Whether playing the drums or one of his many guitars’ music was a lifelong passion. He also loved spending time fishing. While he often joked how much fun fishing is, he said “catching” would be great also. The quiet moments by the water brought him peace and contentment.

Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, Johnnie had a remarkable ability to make people laugh. His playful spirit always left everyone guessing if he was joking or not.

Johnnie was always trying different career paths, but In the early 2000’s Johnnie worked for Nordyne, where he met two people that would forever change his life, his best friend Ben Ramey and Ben’s wife, Star. Their friendship became a true blessing, and through their love, encouragement, and faithful example, Johnnie came to know the Pentecostal faith. He became a devoted member of Greater Vision Worship Center in Puxico, Missouri, where his relationship with the Lord continued to grow.

Johnnie loved to travel with family and create lasting memories. During the last 5 years of his life , he has went to the Little Bohemia Lodge in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, the historic site where John Dillinger famously escaped the FBI in April 1934. Johnnie enjoyed seeing the bullet holes that remain in the lodge and especially loved leaving by boat after dinner imaging the dramatic escape that made the location part of history.

He also enjoyed spending winter time in Naples, Florida, where he soaked up sunshine and did more fishing. Most recently he fulfilled another adventure by taking a cruise through the Western Caribbean visiting Cozumel, Roatan Honduras, Harvest Caye, Costa Maya, and Belize. He treasured every opportunity to explore new places and make memories with those he loved.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Raymond Sutter and Mary June Sutter; and by two beloved grandsons Ty and Taylor.

He is survived by his brother, Paul Raymond Sutter and his wife Donna; his sister Jackie Sutter Rhodes and her husband Danny; his children Kelly Jo White-Sutter and Donny John Sutter; his grandchildren, Trayce, Taven, Alexander, Antonio, Quintin,and Hailee; his great grandchildren, Loyalty, Jacob, and Lyrical; his niece Shawna Suiter, His nephew Jay Sutter; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Above all Johnnie loved the Lord and was grateful for the faith that transformed his life. His legacy of laughter, music, friendship, faithful service, and unwavering love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his family and friends rejoice in the promise that he is now at peace in the presence of his savior.

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

Funeral service with full military honors will begin at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, 17357 Stars and Stripes Way, Bloomfield, MO, with Rev. Marty Bryant officiating. Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
